Anatomy Trains Workshop with Michael Watson
Limited Capacity filling up

This full day immersion will help yoga teachers and students alike learn anatomy in a holistic, relational, and practical way. You'll begin with a new way to map the body in terms of cells, the fascial fabric, and the neuromyofascial web that creates the foundation for a fully embodied experience of moving and breathing yoga. Based on the work of Tom Myers seminal book Anatomy Trains, this course teaches you how to identify common postural patterns, as well as strategies for cueing to awaken parts of the body that may need work. This course will introduce you to the the Anatomy Trains map of myofascial meridians, and from there you’ll travel from the arches of the feet and legs; to the fans of muscle around the hip, adductors, and the psoas; into an exploration of deep breathing involving the abdomen, diaphragm and the rib basket; along the springy spine; into how the the shoulders drape over the ribs; and ending with the neck, head, and jaw. This course invites us to explore the question of how are we shaped, and what shapes us.

Radical, Responsive and Ready! Creating a Just World Through the Practice of Yoga
Limited Capacity filling up

During the Asheville Yoga Festival in 2017, we began a discussion about the external cultural and political landscape and its intersection with the practice of yoga. Friends, these are dark times that require an even deeper dive into understanding how we got to where we are and what skillful actions we can take in response. No one can escape the effects of white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism. It is time that yogis mindfully and actively engage in creating justice through the practice of yoga. Radical, Responsive and Ready will inspire you to change. Four yoga practitioners, Kerri Kelly, Chelsea Roberts Jackson, Carrington Jackson and Michelle will engage you in an exploration of the intersection of yoga and social justice. The session will include: a dharma talk, meditation, partner and group work, asana, and breath work. This moment is about you asking yourself to commit to creating a just world through your practice of yoga. We will guide you. Now is the time. Join us.

DeAnne believes the wisdom and vibration of these mountains assist humans in creating bridges from lives that have been outer directed to more intuitive and authentic lives aligned with the individual’s true purpose. DeAnne has been guiding vortex experiences in Western Carolina for almost a decade and has discovered sacred and ancient sites, vortex energies and spiritual phenomenon in very pristine and remote areas. Most of this magical world is off trail and not found on any maps. When DeAnne is contacted by an individual or group for a vortex experience, she begins tuning into the energies, intentions and desires of those coming and designs a one of a kind outing that will allow for the most optimal and gratifying experience possible. She is excited to create an outing just for yogis and the Asheville Yoga Festival.

Heart Like A River : Embodying Our Practice
Limited Capacity seats available

To limit our yoga practice to our mat, to a place, to a time is to miss all that yoga has to offer us. Yoga has always asked us, from the beginning, to take great vows in our efforts to embody the practice, to be living yoga. This workshop will be a physical flow linking all aspects of our being accompanied by #getyourfestivalon rockin' playlist. Elements of Kundalini, Ashtanga and Vinyasa will all appear as we embrace those aspects of the practice that are meant to be lived in the world. It’s not only body, but heart and mind. How can we make this practice stick? One of Thich Nhat Hanh’s first teachings on how to love makes the comparison of what happens when we put a handful of salt into a cup of water versus what happens when we put a handful of salt into a river. No one can drink the cup of water but the river is immense and is able to receive, embrace and transform the salt. Our hearts are the same. When our hearts are small and tight, we have little to offer, we suffer. Yet when our hearts soften and expand, we move beyond our limits. We embody understanding and compassion. We can hold others, as they are and they have a chance to transform. This practice lives in the heart. Participants of this class will be eligible for 2 YPLE Continuing Education Credit Hours, Yoga Alliance Approved (YPLE – Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, Ethics). how can our practice sustain us in our efforts to be the best version of ourselves? What aspects of our practice keep our heart open? Keep our heart moving in the direction of being a river, rather than a cup? How does our practice support our efforts to be more inclusive, more tolerant, more able to transform the salt?

SUP Yoga ~ {+$35}
Limited Capacity filling up
This session requires a SUP ticket. Only 3, 4 day or single day pass holders may purchase this add on session.

SUP Yoga
Be present, connect with nature and have fun!  SUP yoga is a unique way to experience your practice. The added challenge of balancing on water heightens your awareness of body alignment and requires that you pay attention now. Connect deeper with the five Elements of nature present in our outdoor classroom and also present inside of each of us. One of the best reasons to enjoy SUP yoga is floating Savasana. It could be the most relaxing pose you’ll ever experience!
In this class we’ll start with a quick intro to the board, paddle, leash and PFD (personal floatation device), followed by an intro on how to stand up and basic SUP paddle strokes. From there we’ll launch onto the river and paddle to the anchor system that will keep our boards anchored for class. After our yoga class on the boards we’ll paddle back to the take-out.

NOTE: No prior SUP experience necessary and you can paddle on your knees in the beginning if you don’t want to stand up. SUP beginners and never evers welcome! All levels.

What to Bring:
~ Wear quick dry (lycra, bathing suit etc..) clothing that you don’t mind getting wet – note that if you fall in and there is a breeze you may want a long sleeve shirt to put on – please don’t wear cotton as it gets heavy when it’s wet and doesn’t wick moisture.
~ A strap for your glasses or sunglasses – FYI if you don’t wear a strap and you fall in you will lose your sunglasses/glasses.
~ Sunscreen
~ Water bottle
~ Towel and a change of clothes for after class
~ Water shoes/sandals for launching on and taking off the river

This workshop is a sweet, gentle Kundalini flow followed by a gong bath designed to keep you going all day. The 11th body encompasses all 10 bodies and relates to infinity, compassionate living and divine vision. The Four Yogas: Karma, Jñāna, Bhakti and Rāja; Selfless Service, Philosophy, Devotion and Meditation
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Explore these four approaches to wholeness in a gentle flowing āsana sequence. Our session will begin with a brief lecture, then move into an all-levels practice with specific techniques that come from each type of yoga. Karma yoga is an approach to selfless service that allows us to live fully in the present while helping others without attachment to a future reward. Jñāna yoga is a way to purify our intellect of logical fallacies and to equip our selves with thinking tools that can help us better see the big picture as well as the details in order to make better decisions. Bhakti is the yoga of relationships, with 9 ways that can empower us to improve our half of every relationship. Rāja is the yoga of meditation, which begins by turning inward to help us heal and then turn outward to better care for our family, community, environment and future generations.

SUP Yoga ~ {+$35}
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Beautifully Blissed Out
Limited Capacity filling up

A deep Yin Practice, artistically woven and challenging followed by a delicious Yoga Nidra. All Levels Welcome. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect compliment to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. We can remain in the postures anywhere from one to twenty minutes! Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about. After you have experienced it, even just once, you will realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice. Yoga Nidra is an ancient but little-known yogic practice that's becoming increasingly popular as both a form of meditation and a mind-body therapy. It is a systematic form of guided relaxation, yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage. ... The yogic goal of both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation are the same, a state called samadhi.

Unapologetic Power
Limited Capacity seats available

There are several connotations of the word power and many, (for good reason), can be triggering. But we all hold within us an innate sense of power that stems from a knowing of self and a dedicated connection to a bigger picture. While we all possess this type of power, often the pathway to that source can become blocked or shadowed from life experiences unprocessed or un-actualized. Unapologetic Power is a workshop designed to move deeply into the practice of mindfully and reverently creating, holding and directing our power in the name of and in service to Love and is a critical tool in the development of both our individual and collective wellbeing. It is an exploration and application of movement, breath, meditation and writing exercises designed to remember and refine our innate ability to tap into the source of all things so that you can bring the power of your presence into all that you do. Asana, lecture, journaling. All levels welcome.

New Human, New Earth, New Timeline
Limited Capacity seats available

DeAnne is a local vortex guide and we are thrilled that she will be taking yogis out to experience the magical energies of the Blue Ridge mountains. Because the participation in this outdoor experience is limited, we have asked DeAnne to bring her awareness of vortex and sacred site energies to this inspirational and informative hour, where she will share about the gifts and transformative power of the vibrational world.
According to DeAnne, our perceived world is changing because our Earth is changing. Our planet is literally moving into a new vibrational space within our Solar System, which is impacting who we are as a humanity, more than we know. For over a decade, DeAnne has been teaching about a “new human” consciousness and energy that is changing our relationship to power, to life purpose, to one another and to consciousness itself. In this talk she will share her personal experiences of gathering wisdom, divine intelligence and ancient memory from the Earth Mother, Gaia… as well as, the secrets the Earth holds in activating our Authentic Nature and Crystalline DNA.
“The Earth has long been this humanity’s vibrational mirror. At no other time in our history as a species has the Earth Mother offered the invitation and potential that she does now to the human family. All of her vortices around the world, known and unknown, are activating. Her chakras and light body are cleansing, restructuring and rebalancing as she moves into a new position in the Cosmos, and we have the opportunity to move with her in a synchronized attunement of expansion.”
You are invited to come and share in this inspired New Human/New Earth experience, where you will learn tools and techniques to take with you to deepen your connection to nature, consciousness and the evolving Self.

Breakdown to Breakthrough
Limited Capacity filling up

Yoga is the process of disrupting and disorienting the body so as to discover new pathways towards change. Around the world yogis are reinventing the rules of engagement – showing up in ways that are more conscious, compassionate and creative. Navigating this time in our lives and in the world does not require us to cultivate more security, rather it calls us to buckle up and embrace the chaos. Only then, can we know where we are so that we can know where we are going. The beauty is in the breakdown.

The Radical Act of Self Care
Limited Capacity seats available

In yoga, the "self" truly is a reflection of everyone that we interact with; there is no separation and we are inextricably linked. The current cultural context is one that is greatly imbalanced, causing dysfunction, separation, isolation, trauma and harm individually and collectively. Self-Care is a radical act of resistance. It is time for us to consider how we want to more intentionally care for ourselves and others. Through the practice of yoga, this workshop will focus on the relationship that you have with yourself and how that informs your relationships with others. In this workshop we will explore what it means to make space to practice self-care and what it means to care for the collective good. We will set intentions focused on living into the highest versions of ourselves, and make space to heal our hearts so that we can more clearly see our connection with others.

Deep Release
Limited Capacity filling up

You hold your entire life story in your body. Due to the demands of modern life, many of us find it hard to self regulate. We become drawn into the hussle bussle, we may feel overwhelmed, over scheduled and under-rested. We are too frequently in the Flight or Fight instinct and need to find the pause where we can drop down and breathe. In this workshop we will focus on gentle restorative somatic movement that is designed to help the body mind and heart unwind from the daily assault of daily stress and trauma. Somatic movement is very gentle, rhythmic, and extremely soothing. It is based on our bodies innate ability to release tension.

The Art & Ritual of Letting Go
Limited Capacity seats available

We all have a few things stored away… Secrets, loss, negative self-talk or regret. But what happens when our inner landscape is piled high with this kind of excess baggage? Not only does the build up become tension and stress in the body, but also the route of clear seeing, right knowing and courageous doing can become blocked. Join Carrington Jackson, for a unique and liberating experience… Fire Practice: The Art and Ritual of Letting Go. This session is centered around the energy of purification and transformation of body, mind and spirit. We will focus on building heat to rid the body of excess toxins and tension on both the physical and energetic levels. We’ll unblock the pathways that lead to understanding and self-trust and work to break through habitual patterns that historically disconnect us from purpose or passion. The practice will begin with a meditation on the obstacles or clutter that we’re holding on to, followed by a detoxifying sequence that will focus on twists, backbends & core work designed to rinse away tangible & intangible toxins. Towards the end of our practice we’’ll ritualize our letting go by tossing into the flames that which no longer serves us. Asana, lecture, journaling. All levels welcome.

The Royal Flush: Twists & Spirals
Limited Capacity seats available

The spiral is a pattern we see often in nature, from the microscopic to the universal - DNA, the zygote, the nautilus, tornadoes, planetary rotations, orbits, and galaxies. It is also the framework of our pranic bodies, and when consciousness spirals unobstructed upward through the chakras, we are said to have the experience of yoga, the merging of the two twisting opposites. Twisting in an asana class detoxes the body. Twists tone the abdominal muscles, squeeze out impurities, wring out ignorance, and flush out the internal organs. Come to de-stress, detox, detach, and delight!
